Postpartum Wardrobe Refresh

Two days ago, my neighbor became a mom for the first time, and that inspired this post.
I remember my first postpartum experience—everything was super exciting, and my day revolved around my newborn. Which, of course, was natural! That little human grew inside me, and once finally out, needed all of my care and attention. But looking back, I see that I wasn’t kind to my amazing body, the same body that created a new life!
Every time I got dressed, I focused on all the parts of my body that were "out of place." Even though I understood the enormous transformation my body had undergone in nine months, I wanted it to snap back ASAP. That frustration affected my mood.
At the time, I didn’t know about image consulting techniques to disguise areas I felt insecure about or what clothes could help me feel more comfortable. Instead, I squeezed myself into pre-pregnancy jeans and cursed at the zipper. Spoiler alert: the zipper always won.
Here’s the thing: there’s a transition period, often a year, before your body returns to its pre-pregnancy state—if it ever does. And that’s okay! During this time, it’s natural to focus on your baby, but you should also carve out time for yourself. Schedule a day to go out with friends, take a walk, or do something just for you. Contrary to what some might think (or what the old me might have thought), this isn’t selfish. It’s about replenishing your energy to face your new role as a mom and preparing for what comes next.
Six years after my latest pregnancy, here’s my small piece of advice: be compassionate with your body and enjoy the journey. You’ve earned it.
Now, let’s talk fashion—because a great outfit can work wonders for your confidence. Here’s a winter capsule wardrobe to inspire those of you looking not just to look good, but to feel amazing every day:
Natural Fabrics: Treat yourself to cotton, cashmere, silk, or the cuddle sensation of a big puffy coat. They’re elegant and kind to sensitive postpartum skin.
Versatile Garments: Look for pieces that can transition from day to evening and are breastfeeding-friendly. Think wrap dresses, stretchy tops, or button-down shirts.
Create Layers: If you’re dealing with leftover baby weight and want to blur certain areas, layering is your best friend. Long vests, scarves, and monochromatic outfits can create the illusion of a leaner, longer silhouette.
Tights and Shirts: Pair long shirts as a base layer with a sweatshirt, cardigan, or plain knitted sweater on top. It’s stylish and practical.
Show Some Forearm: Rolling up your sleeves or folding your top’s hem gives a cool look, plus showing some skin always helps your overall silhouette look longer.
Shoes: Chelsea boots are a classic, and Samba-style Adidas sneakers are trending this winter. And because I couldn’t resist—those STAUD high-heeled boots deserve a special mention!
